About the author
Jared Florance draws on his love of adventure, his knowledge of science, and his career in medicine to create fiction that pushes the boundaries of the known world. A fascination with ancient people led him to the subject of his debut novel: a husband-and-wife research team lost in an unfamiliar land that is undergoing a merging of cultures. Before he turned to writing, Florance was a logistician in Vietnam and a medical officer Iraq and in civilian life a public health expert who specialized in bioterrorism and pandemics. He has lectured to military audiences in Macedonia and Turkmenistan, as well as visiting groups of government officials from African, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European countries. A lifelong traveler, he was inspired to write The Copper Axe after visiting the South Tyrol Archaeology Museum in Italy, where he viewed the world’s most famous glacier mummy, a 5,300-year-old man who was killed by an arrow back in the Copper Age.
